Product Description

The San Antonio Firearms Taining CHL Class now know as an LTC (License To Carry) Class consists of classroom instruction lasting approximately 6 hours. The class covers all training criteria to obtain a Concealed Handgun License from the State of Texas. The classroom session is mandated by state law to be a minimum 4-6 hours. Class usually begins at 9:00 a.m. in the classroom located on the range, but specific times for the classes are listed on the class date option menu. We have found that our classroom time length is the proper span in order to adequately cover the necessary topics. Immediately following the classroom portion we perform the Shooting Proficiency Test.

We feel that our private range and classroom provide the best venue in the area for teaching in an ideal learning envornment. The fact that the range is private means that when our class is shooting, we are the only ones shooting. When we are teaching we can sit at the picnic tables in the shade and discuss the specific techniques or topics without worrying about the sound of gunfire from other shooters. This provise an ideal relaxed atmosphere for new shooters and experienced shooters alike. For more info and directions to our range click the folllowing link:

Step By Step Checklist For Attaining a Texas LTC (License To Carry):

These steps can be completed in any order.

  • Submit Online Application: Go to the Texas DPS Concealed Handgun Registration Page and submit the CHL Application online. You will pay the state fee at this time. Click Here to Submit Your Online Application -You do not need to do this before enrolling in the class.

  • Schedule Electronic Fingerprinting: You want to do this as quickly as you can after completeing your online application.  When the fingerprinting and the application are complete, the state will begin the process of the background check for your application.  Completeing these two steps as quickly as possible will result in the fastest turn around time for issuance of the CHL after you send in your course completion form.

The electronic fingerprinting used by the State of Texas is administered by a third party called MorphoTrust. It is a simple process that will instantly submit your fingerprints electronically directly to the CHL Licensing Department of DPS.  You will REALLY want to schedule an appointment (or have the better part of a day to kill sitting in a waiting area  - your call.) You will need to have already submitted the DPS application because you will need the "Trace Number" from your application to schedule the appointment. Your prints will be tied to your application by the Trace Number. Click Here To Schedule An Appointment For Electronic Fingerprinting

  • Attend the State mandated LTC (License To Carry) Class: Sign up for an open class at San Antonio Firearms Training and submit the CHL100 form you will receive upon successful completion of the class to the Texas DPS Handgun Licensing Section.

  • If you have previously submitted allof the rquired items in a timely manner a few weeks prior to taking the class the turnaround time for the issuance of the CHL is only about a week.  If you have delayed in getting your application or fingerprinting done until the time of the class or after then it can delay the issuance by weeks.

Required Equipment:

  • Reliable handgun- 32ACP (Semi Auto) or 38 (Revolver) minimum caliber
  • 50rds of ammunition minimum. If you are unsure that you will qualify on your first attempt then bring 100 rounds.

Both of the range and in class session was so much fun.

  2. Great Class for New & Experienced Gun Owners 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Apr 2016

I am a new (very) shooter & I didn't know what to expect when taking this class. Chris, his wife, & his staff were very friendly and made my wife & I feel very comfortable. We had a class of about 30 & they always took their time to help every in both the lecture part of the class & the demonstration (shooting). Chris made the class fun & he keep our attention the entire time. His knowledge is outstanding! I learned so much about the laws for LTC (license to Carry) & the practical use of owning a gun. I felt that I left more confident because I had more knowledge. I recommend this class to anyone plus I plan on taking some of his other gun classes to get better.

  3. Great Class 5 Star Review

Instructor was very knowledgable, the class was very laid back but still presented all the course material and then some. The instructor and his wife have a great dynamic and keep the class funny and interesting. I would highly recommend taking your LTC class here.

  4. Great class for Beginner or Experienced shooter 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Mar 2016

I previously had my CHL from another state, so this was a great refresher and great coverage of TX law. My wife is a beginner and learned alot from this class. Instructor was terrific and really down to earth. Very low stress class where you learn more than you realize.

  5. Fantastic class 5 Star Review

This class was much more than expected. I can't recommend this enough. The flow of instruction was great and the range time was perfect.

  6. Great Instructors 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Mar 2016

My wife and I took the CHL class and neither of us had done any preparation. Neither of us had fired a weapon in a few years or bothered to study any of the Texas laws regulating firearms. By the time the class was finished, we both were able to pass the written test easily, and qualify with our weapons with no problem. The instructors are knowledgeable and very friendly. Our class was fairly large, between 80 to 100 people, but from our perspective, the instructors were able to address the needs of all the students efficiently and effectively. I encourage anyone who attends to bring food and drink.

  7. Great Class 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Mar 2016

I took the class even though I do not plan to carry right now, but the class was both interesting and had the right amount of humor. I thought I knew a lot already, but was surprised at how much I learned. They even taught me how to keep from shooting myself in the foot.
I would recommend this class to anyone, except for the bad guys.

  8. Texas chl/ltc class 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Feb 2016

The class covered all the necessary details for State requirement with a good emphasis on personal responsibility and consequences of poor judgement. I would reccomend San Antonio firearms training to every one
eligible and desireing to obtain a license to carry a handgun.

I enjoyed the class. Very informative. Instructor communicated well. Range test was well organized.

  10. Longest CHL Class 4 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Feb 2016

We were told we were the longest time-wise class they have taught. There were 55 people, and to make matters worse, there was a conflict with the available time for the shooting range. The landlord double booked, so to be fair, this wasn't their fault. Because the class was large, there were three groups for shooting qualification. I was a member of the last group, and we only had about 20 minutes to qualify. It's rough when the best part is cut short. That's the reason for the four star rating. The class was kept interesting with extra videos and examples of what could go wrong. One problem with the class, again, not their fault, is that some of the participants needed to enroll in the basic handgun class before taking the CHL/LTC class. To prospective students: "Learn your firearm and how to shoot before taking the CHL class. You can do this without a CHL."
